Filter Coffee at Home: Simple Ways to Make Proper South Indian Filter Coffee

South Indian filter coffee feels special, but making it at home does not need to be complicated.

You need three things: good filter coffee powder, hot water, and patience.

Start with 2 tablespoons of filter coffee powder. Add it to the upper chamber of your filter. Press it lightly, but do not pack it too tightly. Pour hot water slowly and close the lid.

Let the decoction drip for 10 to 15 minutes.

For one cup, use ¼ cup decoction and ¾ cup hot milk. Add sugar if you like. Pour it between two cups to create foam.

Common mistakes to avoid:

Using too much water
Pressing the coffee too hard
Using weak coffee powder
Rushing the decoction
Adding too much milk

The best filter coffee should feel bold, smooth, and comforting. Not watery. Not bitter. Just a cup that hits right.

If your morning coffee has started feeling flat, filter coffee is a simple way to bring back that strong first sip.

Coffee Before Anything Else.
